Corn is the first feedstock for ethanol; it’s additionally grown for livestock and human consumption. Other crops have a much higher energy yield: ethanol made from "energy crops" -- grashaiqi and trees -- yields 4-5 times as much energy as needed to farm the crops and make the ethanol.
